A current BLS certificate is a pre-requisite for entry on the PALS course.

The AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support course is based on new science evidence from the latest AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC and a new teaching methodology. The aim of the PALS course is to assist the healthcare provider to develop knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, thus resulting in improved outcomes. Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatric assessment; effective respiratory management; defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion; intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.

Successful candidates receive an American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support Card and Certificate.

The Course has been CPD-accredited by the Health Professions Council of South Africa for 32 Continuing Education Units, including 2 CEU's for Ethics.
